Ruud van Nistelrooy leaves Manchester United

Ruud van Nistelrooy has left Manchester United following the arrival of Ruben Amorim.

Ruben Amorim officially started his job as Manchester United head coach on Monday and he confirmed that the former striker will not be part of his backroom staff.

The 48-year-old Dutchman took over at Old Trafford on an interim basis after compatriot Erik ten Hag was sacked.

Van Nistelrooy, who joined United as an assistant coach in July on a two-year deal, managed three victories and a draw in his four games during his time as caretaker boss.

However, Amorim has decided against retaining the services of former Netherlands striker Van Nistelrooy, who spent five seasons at United as a player.

“Manchester United can confirm that Ruud van Nistelrooy has left the club. Ruud rejoined in the summer and has taken charge of the team for the past four matches as interim head coach,” the statement from Manchester United reads.
“Ruud is, and always will be, a Manchester United legend. We are grateful for his contribution and the way in which he has approached his role throughout his time with the club.”

“He will always be very welcome at Old Trafford,” it concludes.

Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar and Pieter Morel have also departed Man United as Rúben Amorim wants his own staff.

Under Van Nistelrooy’s stewardship, United achieved two victories over Leicester City, one in the Premier League and another in the Carabao Cup, a win over PAOK in the Europa League, and a draw against Chelsea.
