Man in Kagadi Arrested Over Murder of Brother

Preliminary investigations suggest that Tugume wanted to sell part of their family land, an idea strongly opposed by Tuhaise.

Police in Kagadi District have arrested a man accused of killing his brother over a dispute involving family land.

Tuhaise Byaruhanga, a resident of Mutunguru village in Burora sub-county, is alleged to have murdered his brother, Byaruhanga Tugume, following a quarrel that escalated into a fatal confrontation.

Preliminary investigations suggest that Tugume wanted to sell part of their family land, an idea strongly opposed by Tuhaise.

Despite his brother’s objections, Tugume proceeded with the sale, which reportedly sparked the violent altercation.

Albertine region police spokesperson Julius Hakiza confirmed the arrest, noting that initial findings indicate the dispute over the land sale led to the fatal fight.

“We are still gathering more information, but it appears Tuhaise Byaruhanga quarreled with his brother Tugume Byaruhanga after opposing the land sale. The fight escalated, resulting in Tugume’s death,” Hakiza explained.

Hakiza highlighted the prevalence of land disputes and related violence in Kagadi District and the broader Albertine region.

He urged residents to prioritize dialogue and reconciliation when resolving disagreements.

“Imagine being arrested for killing your own brother over land neither of you purchased—it was bought by your parents. Such actions are regrettable. Tuhaise will undoubtedly face murder charges,” Hakiza said.

Police continue to investigate the incident as Tuhaise remains in custody. Authorities have called on families in the region to embrace unity and seek peaceful resolutions to conflicts to avoid similar tragedies.
