SUPL: NEC Ends KCCA FC’s Unbeaten Run

KCCA FC’s unbeaten run came to an end following hard-fought 1-0 loss to NEC FC in a Uganda Premier League clash at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Thursday evening.

This marked Kasasiro Boys’ first loss of the season in their ninth game of the 2024/25 campaign.

Mazamir Mutyaba scored the only strike in the game for the Hussein Mbalangu’s coached side. NEC executed a solid game plan, effectively limiting KCCA’s space to operate in midfield.

KCCA had an early chance when Saidi Mayanja unleashed a shot, but it went straight into Hannigton Ssebwalunyo’s hands.

In the 20th minute, Mutyaba broke the deadlock with a spectacular strike from outside the box, leaving the hosts trailing.

Just before halftime, Ashraf Mugume forced Ssebwalunyo into a brilliant save from close range, keeping NEC’s lead intact.

Controversy arose in the second half when Sadat Anaku was fouled at the edge of the box. While KCCA players appealed for a penalty, the referee awarded a free kick instead. Usama Arafat stepped up but sent his effort wide of the target.

In added time, Anaku failed to connect with a precise delivery from James Mubezi, sealing KCCA’s fate as their chances fizzled out.

The victory lifts NEC to the top of the table with 19 points, one ahead of KCCA, after nine games in the campaign.
