Lwemiyaga Leaders Out to Oust Ssekikubo

Politics

In a dramatic turn of events in Lwemiyaga Constituency, local leaders led by retired generals Emmanuel Rwashande and Philmon Katrima have launched a campaign to unseat their long-serving Member of Parliament, Theodore Ssekikubo.

Dubbed Lwemiyaga Transformation: Enough is Enough of Ssekikubo’s 25 Years”, the campaign was officially unveiled at Ntusi Town Council on Thursday in front of residents and key political stakeholders.

The campaigners accuse Ssekikubo of mistreating constituents and engaging in land-grabbing practices. During the launch, residents carried placards with statements such as, “Enough is Enough, Ssekikubo!”, “Land Grabbing Must Stop!”, and “25 Years of No Progress!”

Their grievances paint a picture of frustration and unmet expectations spanning Ssekikubo’s 25-year tenure in Parliament.

Ibrahim Kaddu, a resident, voiced his dissatisfaction, saying, “The 25 years of Ssekikubo’s leadership in Parliament have brought little progress to our constituency.”

Echoing this sentiment, Gen. Katrima stated, “Everything has its beginning and end. It is time for Ssekikubo to vacate Lwemiyaga.”

The campaign has also drawn the attention of Michael Toyota Nuagira, Vice President of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), who was petitioned to lend his support.

Toyota promised to investigate the allegations before committing to any course of action.

“If it is confirmed that Ssekikubo has been involved in these grievances, I will support your efforts to bring about change,” he assured the gathering.

The organizers claim that earlier attempts to seek redress, including appeals to Parliament, have been unsuccessful.

The launch of this campaign marks a critical shift in Lwemiyaga’s political landscape, with leaders and residents rallying to demand accountability from their MP.

Attempts to reach Ssekikubo for comment were unsuccessful, as his known contacts were unresponsive.
