Arsenal Fans in Jinja Take to the Streets to Celebrate Victory Over United

Sports

In a repeat of last year’s scenes, Arsenal fans took to the streets in celebration following their 2-0 victory over arch rivals Manchester United in the Premier League.

Arsenal fans in Jinja City erupted in celebrations following their team’s 2-0 victory over Manchester United in a Premier League clash last night.

In a nation that is mad about English football, clashes between the two teams often end in post-match incidents.

In Lukaya town in Kalungu District, an Arsenal fan was shot dead by a security guard over noisy celebrations in the dead of the night.

And in Jinja City, the jubilant supporters organised street processions that brought parts of the city to a standstill, with motorcycles adorned in Arsenal colours dominating the streets.

The celebrations began early in the morning at Stabex Bugembe, where fans refueled their motorcycles, courtesy of Felix Bagiire, popularly known as Arsenal Ambassador Sham Love – who was one of those arrested last year.

The enthusiasm among fans was palpable, fueled by optimism for Arsenal’s Premier League title chances this season.

Unlike last season, when similar celebrations led to police interventions and arrests, this time the procession passed near the Central Police Station without incident.

Officers observed the festivities but did not intervene.

However, Kiira Region Police spokesperson James Mubi reminded the public to seek prior authorization from the Inspector General of Police before organizing processions.

“We urge fans to avoid holding unauthorized processions to ensure public safety and order,” said Mubi.

Arsenal’s win comes as a much-needed boost following a challenging October and early November.

The team’s recent three-game winning streak has propelled them to third place in the Premier League table with 28 points, seven behind league leaders Liverpool.

Sports analysts believe this victory has reignited Arsenal’s hopes of being serious title contenders.

Fans in Jinja echoed this sentiment, expressing renewed confidence in their team’s potential for glory this season.
