LUZIRA INMATE ‘CANAAN NKAMUHABWA’ GRADUATE IN LAW.
The person standing before you today has achieved a remarkable feat graduating with a second class honors against all odds. among his fellow graduates some began as prison officers while others were convicts .however , his own journey started as a condemned inmate, sentenced to death by court-martial said Canaan. justice Musa ssekana, the head of civil division of the high court, praised the program in the Uganda prisons service, calling it a significant milestone in the transformation of justice in Uganda. speaking shortly after picking his papers, Nkamuhabwa highlighted the justice during his trial at the UPDF court martial. he revealed that his trial lasted for only one day. the trail of civilian like him remains uninterrupted. Canaan Nkamuhabwa also stated that as he was waiting for his execution, an unexpected opportunity arose to him. it was a God’s miracle so without delving into the details of his imprisonment, he revealed that his trial lasted a mere day . it was a capital offense case with over ten witnesses, and he was sentenced to death by midnight. but again God had other plans for him. the opportunity to take the course was advertised by the Africans prison project. he described it as a ‘cry to a caged bird’ that resonated deeply with with him and his fellow inmates. so now today Nkamuhabwa has convinced that he has taken a significant step forward in his education drive. he highlighted the program’s impact on empowering inmates enhancing prison security and promoting a positive correctional environment and also congratulated the graduates on their achievement and encouraged them to use their legal knowledge to advocate for justice and contribute to a better society. Canaan Nkamuhabwa is 34 years of age, he is the second born of 8 children, his childhood life was full of movements they moved from one place to another as cattle keepers, nomadic farmers, etc.. that resulted him to attend about seven primary schools but completed his p.7 at saint Jude primary school. he also added that he grew up and finished school without any problem as he was also an excellent performer at school. he graduated at the year 2022 at kyambogo university but since he couldnt get a job as jobs are so hard to get nowdays he ended up joining the military where he served for about 5 years before he got arrested. Canaan Nkamuhabwa also added that he is a born again christian and he learnt about God, as the scripture says that he was found by God ,says Canaan. he is also an associate pastor at his local church and he is dreaming about the world where people will not be discriminated of who they are or their finacial background that people will not suffer injustice because of their poverty or because of their illiteracy. he also added that the only advice he can air out to anyone out there going through a hard time and is almost giving up in life is that if he went through what he went through and yet there he is after some years and have obtained a law degree that he is now working with a big organization. he graduated with a prestigious university of London that he is shaping his career and his family again so every person needs to understand that giving up is never an option and no matter what the circumstances and what you are going through to have faith that things can turn around even to the person that is going through the worst. story: BY BADRELDEEN KHALAFALLHA .
