Abeeri Clan Advances as Bunyoro MTN Bicycle Races Thrill Hoima

The Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom (BKK) MTN Enganda Football Tournament and Bicycle Races delivered another action-packed day on Friday, December 6, in Kigorobya, Hoima District, drawing passionate crowds and showcasing exceptional talent.

Abeeri Clan emerged as one of the standout performers, securing a spot in the second round of the football tournament.

Despite a 2-2 draw with Abagabu Clan in their opening match, Abeeri’s superior goal difference helped them edge past their rivals.

Abeeri’s decisive moment came in their clash with Abasiita, where they triumphed with a commanding 4-1 victory, ensuring qualification.

Both Abeeri and Abagabu finished with four points from their group-stage matches, but Abeeri’s three goals compared to Abagabu’s two secured their advancement.

“We are ready for another round in Hoima,” said Abeeri midfielder Isaac Isingoma. “Our focus this year is on the trophy. We are coming to Hoima City with one motive: winning this year’s title.”

Abagabu coach Alfred Kwikiriza reflected on his team’s journey, acknowledging the narrow margin that led to their exit.

“We played very good matches, winning one and drawing one, but we dropped off due to goal difference,” he said. Abeeri Clan manager Karugaba Apuuli praised the unifying role of the tournament.

“These games are very crucial in promoting health, unity, and cultural identity as one gets to know their clan members,” he said.

“Our efforts in mobilizing players and supporters have paid off, and we are thrilled to advance.”

The Bunyoro MTN-sponsored bicycle races also took center stage, with hundreds of spectators lining the streets of Kigorobya to witness the thrilling competition.

The event saw over 70 cyclists compete in men’s and women’s categories. In the men’s category, Martin Kemigisa delivered a standout performance, crossing the finish line first to claim the top prize of Shs500,000.

“This is my second time participating in these competitions,” Kemigisa said.

“It hasn’t been easy because all the men are strong, but God has done it for me. I’m now waiting for the finals in Hoima next year.”

In the women’s category, Jennifer Kusemererwa claimed first place, earning Shs500,000. She was joined by runners-up Ayesiza Ronnet (Shs400,000) and Kahumuza Moreen (Shs300,000).

The three participants have all qualified for the finals in Hoima City, set for January 2025.
