A somber mood engulfed Masanda cell in Kyengera Town Council, Wakiso District, as the lifeless bodies of a family of four were discovered in their single-room residence on November 15, 2024.
The victims were identified as Nyanzi Simon, a 40-year-old boda boda rider, and his three young children: Kabanda Pius (8), Priscilla (7), and Praise (2).

The discovery was made by concerned neighbors who had grown suspicious when Nyanzi failed to open his door as usual, and the children, typically left in the care of a neighbor, were unseen.
Upon checking, the neighbors found the door closed but unlocked. Inside, they found the four victims fully dressed, lying motionless on a bed.
According to Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, authorities were promptly alerted to the situation.
“The area chairman informed us immediately, and our officers quickly arrived at the scene. Preliminary examinations suggest the family may have been dead for hours before they were discovered,” Onyango said.
The bodies were transported to Mulago City Mortuary for postmortem examination. Investigators are piecing together evidence to determine the cause of death.
Onyango confirmed that no suspicious substances were found at the scene, though some peculiarities have drawn the attention of investigators.
“One of the intriguing findings is that Nyanzi Simon’s phone was recovered, but all contacts had been deleted. We are following this lead to understand whether this has any connection to the tragedy,” SSP Onyango stated.
The police also revealed that the mother of the children is currently employed abroad in an Arab country, leaving many questions about the family’s dynamics and any potential external threats.
Residents of Masanda cell expressed shock and sorrow over the incident.
“Nyanzi was a hardworking man. He loved his children, and we can’t believe they are gone just like that,” said one neighbor, who preferred anonymity.
While the community grapples with grief, SSP Onyango assured the public that thorough investigations are underway. “Our team from Nsangi Police Division is working tirelessly to uncover the truth. We urge anyone with information, no matter how small, to come forward and assist in the investigation,” he appealed.
This tragedy has highlighted the importance of vigilance and community unity in such challenging times.
