Govt hails MultiChoice Uganda for investment in local content as company celebrates 30 years

Government has hailed MultiChoice Uganda for its strong investment in local content, contributing taxes and job creation which have spurred the economy to greater heights.

 

Speaking during a dinner to celebrate 30 years of MultiChoice Uganda at Mestil Hotel in Kampaal, the Minister for ICT and National Guidance, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi said the pay TV company touched many lives in Uganda.

 

“MultiChoice for investing a lot of resources in producing local content in the entertainment industry. We appreciate you for the contribution you make for the national economy in Uganda by employing many Ugandans but also being one of the biggest taxpayers in this country. As government we do appreciate this great contribution that you make,” Dr. Baryomunsi said.

 

 

He reaffirmed government’s continued support to ensure the company grows to greater heights, noting that this way, it will continue supporting Uganda’s economy in many other ways.

 

 

To this, Dr. Baryomunsi said government recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with MultiChoice Uganda to help work together on investment in local content, research and development, digital literacy,  capacity building, broadcast sector development and fighting privacy.

 

Uganda Communications Commission’s director for Industry Affairs and Content Julianne R. Mweheire specifically hailed MultiChoice Uganda for its big investment in local content which she said has touched many lives.

 

“I would like to applaud you for the many lives you have touched, those you have employed as a result of your investment in our country and the contribution to our economy can never go unnoticed. You make us really proud.

 

The Managing Director of MultiChoice Uganda, Hassan Saleh said in the past three decades, the company has touched many lives in the country..

 

“Our vision was simple yet ambitious, to bring best of international and local content to Ugandan houses .Over years this vision has grown. We have provided the customer with flexibility to catch up with favourite shows. These advancements have redefined how content is consumed and over time, we have introduced diverse and entertaining packages to reaffirm our dedication to provide value for money to customers,” Saleh said.

 

 

He said over the last 30 years, the company has created thousands of direct and indirect jobs but also created an ecosystem to empower Ugandans.

 

The dinner was also attended by other dignitaries including actors in Uganda’s film industry among others.
