The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Kitagwenda, Nicholas Nuwagira, has issued a strong warning to the public against engaging in mob action.

He urged citizens to rely on legal procedures to address crimes rather than taking the law into their own hands.

This statement follows a recent incident in which two individuals suspected of stealing coffee were killed by unknown assailants.

The tragedy adds to a growing number of mob justice cases in the district, which have now exceeded six since the beginning of the year.

Speaking to the Nile Post, RDC Nuwagira condemned the practice, emphasizing its illegality and potential to escalate crime.

“Mob action is not only unlawful but also undermines the rule of law. We cannot solve crime by committing more crimes,” he said.

Nuwagira appealed to the public to report any suspected wrongdoers to local leaders or the police instead of resorting to violence.

“Whenever you apprehend someone suspected of wrongdoing, I urge you to involve the authorities. Allow the police to investigate and handle the matter fairly,” he added.

The RDC also expressed concern over the rising cases of mob justice in the district, noting that such actions often target innocent people and result in irreversible consequences.

“Innocent lives have been lost due to assumptions and hasty judgments. This must stop,” he said.

Nuwagira called on community leaders and local councils to play a proactive role in educating residents about the dangers of mob justice and the importance of following legal procedures.

“Our leaders must be at the forefront in guiding communities toward peaceful and lawful conflict resolution methods,” he remarked.

The RDC concluded by urging all residents to embrace the justice system, assuring that authorities will ensure suspects face the law in a fair and timely manner.

“Justice is a process, not an act of vengeance. Let us work together to make Kitagwenda a safer place for everyone,” he emphasized.
