Nairobi – Kenyan President William Ruto has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to safeguarding the rights of women and protecting vulnerable populations, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy toward gender-based violence and femicide in Kenya.
Speaking at a press briefing on women’s rights at State House, Nairobi, the President declared that perpetrators of such crimes will face swift justice.
“The government will be relentless in protecting the vulnerable. We will be swift in confronting gender-based violence head-on. Those responsible will be held to account,” President Ruto stated.
Mr Ruto also called for greater caution regarding the use of social media, which he described as a “high-risk space” for interactions with strangers.
He urged children to exercise vigilance online and parents to remain present and approachable to foster open communication with their children.
“Femicide has no place in Kenya,” he affirmed, underscoring his administration’s resolve to create a safer environment for women and girls.
The remarks come amid rising concerns over gender-based violence and the influence of social media in exacerbating risks to young people.
The government has initiated several measures to address these issues, including enhancing legal frameworks, supporting survivors, and promoting awareness campaigns.
President Ruto’s firm stance is expected to bolster ongoing efforts to curb violence against women and protect the country’s most vulnerable groups.
