Senior police officers promoted by Museveni to be pipped today

A group of 12 senior police officers who were recently promoted by President Museveni to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police are set to officially don their new ranks today.

In September, the president in his powers as the commander in chief of the armed forces promoted seven Senior Police Commissioners including  Ubaldo Bamunoba( Police Chief Political Commissar),  Felix Baryamwisaki( ICT director),  Moses Kafeero(Human resource development and training director), Charles Kataratambi( Human rights and legal director), Frank Mwesigwa(operations director), Hadijja Namutebi(director for research , planning and development)  and David Wasswa, the police counter terrorism director.

Early this week, a group of five others including James Apora( director logistics and engineering), Lawrence Niwabiine(director traffic police), Joseph Obwona( Interpol), Steven Tanui( Fire and rescue services) and Geoffrey Musana were also promoted.

The Nile Post has learnt that today at a function to be held at the Police headquarters in Naguru, the 12 will officially be pipped .

The Inspector General of Police, Abbas Byakagaba is expected to be the chief guest.

Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) is the third-highest rank in the structure of the Uganda police force and any police officer who serves as a director is supposed to be at this rank.

However, in some cases, senior police officers who are not yet at this rank are appointed as directors but remain in acting position until they are promoted to AIGP.
