SUPL: Vipers Targets Top of The Table Spot As They Visit URA FC

Vipers SC will be targeting three points to move atop of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League as they make a short trip to URA FC.

The two sides will face off at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo on Friday evening.

The six-time league winners meet the four-time champions on a run of seven matches without defeat since losing 3-1 to NEC in their opening match at Lugogo.

Vipers are currently on 17 points and face a side six points adrift in 11th position.

John Ayala’s men are also unbeaten against the Tax Collectors in their last five outings in which four have ended in their favour.

“URA is one of the teams in the league with history in Ugandan football. Good team with great managers and players that have vast experience,” Vipers SC assistant coach Fred Muhumuza said before adding.

“No hard feelings, it’s a club that gave me an opportunity as a very young coach which was a great experience.”

“We expect a very competitive game with high intensity but it’s a job we have to do as we target maximum points against a top side away from home. We will have to be equal to their task and the boys are aware of the threat at hand,” he added.

Vipers managed home and away victories against the Tax Collectors. In Kitende, the Venoms were 2-0 victors, courtesy of Eric Kenzo Kambale and Abdu Lumala.

They picked another 2-0 win at URA’s backyard, thanks to goals from midfielders Karim Watambala and Moses Waiswa.

Meanwhile, at Butema, Kitara will be desperate to put an end to their abysmal run when they host UPDF.

The Royals are yet to pick a point at their new home and Wasswa Bbosa will hope this comes to end on his home debut after losing the two games in charge so far.

With only four points, the aim will be to win against the army side and climb up the table although not even a win will be enough to see them jump out of relegation.

UPDF are 7th on the table with 12 points and will move into the top five with maximum points.
