Traditional healer arrested over kidnap attempt

Police in Jinja have a arrested 42-year-old traditional herbalist, Faziru Adam Mukulu, for allegedly attempting to kidnap a four-year-old girl in Namulesa, Jinja City.
The suspect, a resident of Kamigo, Buyengo Town Council, was apprehended after vigilant residents raised the alarm. According to police reports, Mukulu and an unidentified accomplice, traveling on a motorcycle with registration number UFT 448M, stopped at Namulesa Trading Centre along the Jinja-Kamuli road.
The pair allegedly tried to lure the child with chapati and biscuits, suspectedly intending to abduct her for ritual sacrifice.
Residents, noticing the suspicious behavior, intervened and alerted authorities.
A swift response from Kiira Regional Police led to Mukulu’s arrest, while his accomplice fled and remains at large.
Police conducted a search of the suspects’ belongings, recovering items that included tobacco pipes, dead human bones, local herbs, sweets, and chapati. The motorcycle has since been impounded.
The Kiira Regional Police spokesperson, SP James Mubi, commended the community for their vigilance, especially during the long holidays when crimes targeting children tend to rise.
“Parents and guardians are urged to remain extra vigilant and take maximum precautions to protect their children during the holiday period. Daredevils are determined to kidnap, steal, sexually assault, and abuse children,” Mubi warned.
He also emphasized that the police would intensify sensitization campaigns aimed at eliminating violence against women, girls, and children. Efforts are underway to track down Mukulu’s accomplice and ensure justice is served.
