Two Manafwa District councilors among seven killed in grisly Iganga-Jinja Highway accident

Two district councilors from Manafwa were among the seven people  killed in a devastating accident on Thursday morning along the Iganga-Jinja highway.

 

The crash involved a taxi, registered as UBP 574J, which was traveling from Mbale to Kampala, and a stationary Fuso truck, registration number UAF 333B, that had parked due to a mechanical failure.

 

The councilors, identified as John Wangolo, who represented Weswa Sub County, and Godfrey Kabaale, representing Manafwa Town Council, were reportedly heading to Kampala for personal business when the accident occurred.

 

According to police spokesperson James Mubi, the taxi struck the truck, which was parked by the roadside, leading to the tragic collision.

Manafwa District Speaker Isaac Matanda expressed sorrow over the tragic loss, urging fellow councilors and the community to remain calm as arrangements are made to bring back the bodies. “More information will be communicated as it becomes available,” he added.

 

Meanwhile one of the eight people who were rushed to Jinja Hospital died bringing the number of the deceased to seven.

 

Other passengers who were injured are currently receiving critical care at Jinja Regional Referral Hospital.

 

The identities of the other victims, both those who perished and those injured, are still being confirmed as investigations continue.

 

James Mubi assured the public that police are investigating the accident to establish further details.
