UNATU Launches App to Digitally Empower Teachers

The Uganda National Teachers Union (UNATU) has launched a groundbreaking digital UNATU app, marking a significant milestone in the union’s efforts to leverage technology to improve the lives of teachers across the country.
The app, dubbed the UNATU App, was unveiled during the 19th Annual Delegates’ Conference of the Uganda National Teachers Union. This conference, hosted in Kabale Municipality, is the first of its kind in the region, and it also marks the union’s first venture into digital innovation with the app’s launch.

The event is being held under the theme: Valuing Teachers’ Voices: Towards a New Social Contract for Education.
Zadock Tumuhimbise, the UNATU National Chairman, noted that the app will strengthen communication among teachers, enabling the exchange of knowledge and learning practices.
“The app that we have launched will streamline the teachers’ activities and foster effectiveness,” Tumuhimbise said.
Philbert Baguma, the UNATU Secretary General, highlighted that the app had been long-awaited and expressed optimism about its potential to significantly enhance the performance of teachers and headteachers in schools.
“This is the time, and we want to move very fast to ensure we utilize it. We want to use it to communicate effectively with our members on a regular basis,” Baguma stated.
“As leaders of UNATU, we shall hold sessions to ensure optimal use of the app,” Baguma added.
