UNICEF Celebrates Children’s Day with Tech Dreams, Inspiring Performances

During the commemoration of World Children’s Day held at the Golf Course Hotel today, over 500 children from various schools gathered for an inspiring event organized by UNICEF and the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC).

The celebration, themed around the transformative power of technology, provided a platform for children to share their aspirations for a tech-driven future.
The event began with interactive discussions where children expressed their hopes for how technology could shape their lives.
The guest of honor, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of ICT, emphasized the role of technology in empowering Uganda’s youth.
“Today, being proficient in technology is not just a bonus, but a basic right,” she stated. “Empowering children through technology is an investment in their future and the future of Uganda.”
Dr Robin Nandy, the UNICEF country representative, highlighted the ongoing collaboration between UNICEF and the Ugandan government to leverage technology for children’s growth.
“As we celebrate 35 years of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, we recommit to ensuring children’s voices are heard. Technology has the potential to unlock incredible opportunities for them,” he said.
However, the true highlight of the day was the electrifying performance by the Ghetto Kids. Their dynamic dance moves captivated the audience, leaving both children and adults cheering.
The Ghetto Kids not only showcased their exceptional talent but also brought joy and inspiration to the crowd, reminding everyone of the power of creativity and resilience.
The day concluded with exciting competitions, where lucky children won Galaxy tablets as prizes, further reinforcing the event’s emphasis on technology and innovation.
As the curtains closed, the energy and excitement sparked by the Ghetto Kids lingered, marking this World Children’s Day as truly unforgettable.
