Vandalism of Electricity Poles Sparks Power Outage in Nakasongola

Savannah Region Police Spokesperson ASP Sam Twiineamazima revealed that unknown individuals cut down two electricity poles and stole about 600 metres of electric wires valued at about Shs20 million.

Police in Nakasongola District have launched investigations into the vandalism of two high-voltage electricity poles and power lines, which caused a blackout across several areas.

The incident occurred on the night of Tuesday, 3rd December, at Lubenge Swamp in Kakooge Town Council.

The theft has disrupted power supply to Kakooge, Katugo, Wabigalo, and other areas along the Kampala-Gulu highway.

The theft was discovered by Edward Kwolekwa, a technical officer at Umeme, who was investigating the cause of the outage. He received a call from a colleague about the vandalized poles at Lubenge Swamp during his inspection.

Police have registered a case of vandalism and malicious damage, assuring the public that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the culprits.

ASP Twiineamazima stressed the importance of protecting public infrastructure, warning against criminal activities that disrupt essential services and pose safety risks to both perpetrators and the community.

The vandalism of electricity infrastructure has become a growing concern, leading to significant financial losses and inconveniences for affected communities.

Authorities continue to issue stern warnings about the consequences of such acts, which not only compromise service delivery but also endanger lives.

Residents are urged to report suspicious activity and collaborate with law enforcement to curb the rising trend of vandalism in the district.
