Wasswa Happy for Uganda Cranes Return

Uganda Cranes defender Geoffrey Wasswa has expressed his gratitude following his return to the national team.

The Ethiopian Coffee player has been summoned to replace defender Elio Capradossi who is currently looking for a new club.

Uganda Cranes is in preparations for a crucial double-header qualifier kicked off with intensity and resolve. The team faces a defining moment, starting with a home match against South Africa on Friday, November 15, at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

According to Wasswa, this is a big opportunity for him and he is eager to help the team qualify.

“I thank the coaches for giving me the chance to return to the national team,” Wasswa said before adding.

“Am happy to be part of the group preparing for the upcoming game because it’s decisive, so we have to give our best so that we qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations because it’s everyone’s dream.”

“I will give my best to help the team achieve the maximum from this game,” he added.

Wasswa received a maiden call-up to the Uganda national team from coach Sébastien Desabre in March 2018 during the international break but didn’t make the cut for the final squad.

Uganda’s journey to this crucial match was set in motion with a dramatic 2-2 draw in Johannesburg. Goals from Denis Omedi and Rogers Mato proved Uganda’s resilience.

A draw from Friday’s game will confirm Uganda’s slot at the forthcoming AFCON final tournament in Morocco.

Uganda tops Group K on 10 points, two ahead of South Africa while Congo and South Sudan have four and zero points respectively.
