Police in Kasese District are investigating two separate incidents: the attempted murder of a husband and an attempted child abduction.

The Rwenzori East Police arrested a 27-year-old woman, identified as Marius Kabugho, on charges of attempting to kill her husband, 32-year-old Octavian Baluku.

The incident occurred at their home in Nyakasanga Cell, Nyamwamba Division, Kasese Municipality, following a domestic altercation on Sunday.

According to SP Nelson Tumushime, the Rwenzori East Police Spokesperson, Kabugho allegedly stabbed her husband in the abdomen during the dispute.

Baluku was rushed to Canopus Medical Center, where he is receiving treatment for his injuries. “The suspect is currently in custody at Kasese Central Police Station as investigations continue.

We urge the public to resolve conflicts amicably to prevent such tragic incidents,” SP Tumushime said.

In a separate case, police are pursuing a suspect who attempted to abduct a four-year-old child in Kasese Municipality.

The incident unfolded when residents noticed suspicious behaviour and alerted authorities. “The suspect fled the scene, abandoning the child, after being confronted by vigilant community members,” SP Tumushime revealed. “Fortunately, the child was rescued unharmed and reunited with their family.”

The police have commended the community for their swift action but emphasised the need for continued vigilance.

“Parents and guardians must always monitor their children, especially in public spaces. Reporting suspicious activity promptly can save lives,” SP Tumushime advised.

Addressing the incidents, SP Tumushime reiterated the importance of community involvement in combating domestic violence and protecting children.

“Violence should never be the solution to disputes. Families are encouraged to seek peaceful means of resolving conflicts, including counseling or mediation. The police remain committed to ensuring safety and justice for all residents,” he added.
