In light of the tensions sweeping Sudan in this protracted war, and after the displacement, exodus, and death of half of Sudan’s population, some Sudanese imams have lost their reputation,  popularity, opinion, and position in matters of religious governance, however Sheikh Abdul Hay Yusuf has retained his position. In a speech Dr. Abdul Hay Yousif accused the leader of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), led by the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Mr. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, who also heads the Transitional Sovereign Council in Sudan of igniting the civil war while supporting the party loyal to the deposed President Omar Hassan al-Bashir. After al Bashir was deposed, al Burhan assumed power in 2019.  Dr. Abdul Hay is considered a supporter of the isolated political party. He is the same person who issued a religious fatwa killing a third of Sudan’s population in order to preserve Islamist rule while people were in demonstrations that swept the Sudanese streets. Controversy arose over his western statements. Since the coup of the Vice-President of the Sovereign Council, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, Commander of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), who seized power in April 2023, the war that has been ignited in all the cities of Sudan continues between the SAF and the RSF, which have begun to dismantle Sudan and bring about total destruction. After the displacement of 8 million Sudanese to neighbouring countries, the rape of 50,000 women and young men, and the killing of more than 800,000 defenceless citizens and many other crimes against humanity, these violations continue to affect the Sudanese people, leading to the displacement of more than 3 million people across regions of Sudan. Organizations and humanitarian aid still do not meet the need to feed the hungry and provide shelter. The outside world and some European countries unanimously agreed that the RSF are behind the destruction that has prevailed in Sudan, and everyone who supports this militia is now on the blacklist of the Sudanese people and some neighbouring countries that have condemned these practices. Dr. Abdul Hay comes out, after a year and eight months of war, and tweets declaring that the Supreme Commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan was the one who ignited the war. He says that the Islamists do not trust him, and that the credit for the victories goes to the Islamists and not the army. This was explained by Abdel-Hay Youssef, who was speaking in a lecture organized by the Syrian Center for Approaches for Political Development in Istanbul, Türkiye. Al Burhan and Muhammad Hamdan Dagalo Hemedti, are ranked one in relationship with Dr. Abdul Hay said. The Zionists and Hemedti were linked to the Mossad, while al Burhan met with Netanyahu. Dr. Abdel Hay Yusuf described the commander of the SAF, as “a disrespectful person who has no religion, and that the Islamic movement does not trust him because; he is a traitor to God and His Messenger.”

Referring to the escalation of disputes with the army commander, Dr. Abdel Hay said, “Burhan is unable to eliminate the Islamic movement, because the Islamists are present even inside his office.”

Dr. Abdul Hay holds al Burhan responsible for the Sudanese crisis and the current war, and said, “Al-Burhan agrees with something and does not fulfill his promise, but rather does the opposite.”

Dr. Abdul Hay also stripped the SAF of any victory in the ongoing war with the RSF, saying that all victories are due to the Islamic “mujahideen” who fight under the name of “popular resistance.” Dr. Abdul Hay Yusuf’s speech attracted a wide range of reactions among the Sudanese, who considered him, “A belated confirmation of what Sudanese political forces have been saying that the Islamists, supporters of the former Bashir government, are the ones who ignited this war in order to return to power.”
